Pla-Mek® and Vik Ørsta: Over 30 years of technical development and shared values

When Pla-Mek® was founded in 1991, the collaboration with Vik Ørsta (then Ørsta Stålindustri) began immediately. Vik Ørsta needed a reliable partner to take over the production of plastic components with high technical precision—and to follow them closely over time.
This marked the beginning of a partnership that has lasted for more than 30 years, built on trust, technical innovation and continuous improvement.
Technical creativity, 2K moulding and joint innovation
ScrewFast
Over the years, Pla-Mek® has developed and produced a wide range of advanced components for Vik Ørsta—especially within rock protection and infrastructure. A major breakthrough came in the late 1990s with the development of ScrewFast, a reinforcement chair designed for PE foam in water and frost protection systems.
The product was realized through close collaboration and Pla-Mek®’s newly established expertise in 2K moulding, combining different plastic materials in a single component.
ScrewFast became a technical success and is still in production today—after millions of units. Attempts to copy the product have failed, and some imitations have even proven unsafe due to a lack of understanding of the original technical solution.
CT-bolten®
Another example is the CT-bolt, a key component in rock and tunnel protection. After years of dialogue, Pla-Mek® took over production and introduced a new method—extrusion—alongside a more sustainable solution:
Today, the CT-bolt is produced with 75% recycled plastic, including material from discarded ropes. This demonstrates how technical performance and sustainability can go hand in hand.
