Pla-Mek® and Vik Ørsta collaborate to produce technical plastic products based on short-haul, recycled plastic from the Norwegian aquaculture and fishing industry. This venture not only provides significant environmental benefits, but also strengthens competitiveness through innovative and sustainable solutions.

The raw material comes from discarded ropes and plastic waste from the fisheries and aquaculture sector, recycled locally in Trøndelag by Norwegian Plastic Recycling AS at Ottersøy. The waste is collected and processed into high-quality granules, which are then used to manufacture new plastic components.
“We’re proud to use short-haul, recycled raw materials that help reduce our CO₂ footprint,”
says Kai Roger Bjørdal, Sales Manager at Pla-Mek®.
“This year, we expect to use around 100 tons of recycled plastic in the production of injection pipes and other tunnel protection products for Vik Ørsta.”
Using recycled plastic for technically demanding products—such as injection pipes for the CT bolt—marks a significant milestone for both Pla-Mek® and Vik Ørsta. The components meet high quality standards and exceed expectations.
Vik Ørsta emphasizes the growing importance of sustainability in tender processes and expects environmentally friendly solutions to become increasingly prioritized.
“We hope contractors will also prioritize greener solutions. Price still matters, but we’re seeing a clear shift toward environmental and sustainability concerns. That’s a promising sign for the future,”
says Krøvel.
The partnership between Pla-Mek® and Vik Ørsta is a strong example of how close dialogue and shared understanding can lead to innovative solutions that enhance competitiveness.
“Pla-Mek knows us well and consistently proposes solutions that make us more competitive. Their focus on sustainability and innovation is essential to our success in the market
