Pla-Mek® delivers energy-absorbing components for Vik Ørsta’s HE foundation
A component that dampens collisions
Vik Ørsta develops light poles with energy-absorbing foundations to improve road safety. They needed a plastic component that could reduce damage in the event of a collision—without compromising functionality, installation or durability.
Technically engineered – developed in close collaboration
Pla-Mek® supplies the plastic top for the HE foundation, designed to deform in a controlled manner upon impact. Combined with long bolts, the plastic part absorbs energy and helps decelerate the vehicle. It also ensures correct mounting height and prevents unwanted mass in the foundation during installation.
The solution was developed in close collaboration with Vik Ørsta, where Pla-Mek® contributed plastic expertise and injection-molded solutions tailored to the customer’s design.
Real-world impact
The solution enhances safety along Norwegian roads and helps reduce damage to both vehicles and people. The collaboration has also led to further product development—driven by strong dialogue and interdisciplinary insight.
Pla-Mek® has additionally supplied plastic components for safety bolts in tunnels—critical infrastructure elements, even if they’re not visible.
